This warming collar might look a little intricate but it's VERY easy to make and it looks gorgeous!
Materials:
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Soft Navy
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Burgundy
Crochet hook size H
Lace side: With Soft Navy and H hook, ch 24.
Row 1- 1 dc in 9th chain from hook and in each of next 2 chains, chain 2, skip 2 ch, 1 sc in next ch, ch 5, skip 3 chains, 1 sc in next chain, ch 2, skip 2 chains, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, ch 2, skip 2 ch, 1 dc in last chain. Ch 5, turn. Row 2- Skip 1st dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, chain 5, 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-5, chain 5, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, skip 2 chains, 1 dc in next chain of turning chain. Ch 5, turn. Row 3- Skip first dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-5, 3 dc in next sc, 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-5, ch 2, 1 dc in eachof next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in 3rd ch of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. Row 4- Skip 1st dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, chain 5, make 1 sc in the center of 3-dc shell, chain 5, skip last dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 5, 1 sc in center dc of 3-dc shell, chain 5, skip last dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in 3rd ch of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. Row 5- Skip 1st dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-5, chain 4, 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-5, ch 2, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in 3rd ch of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. Row 6- Skip 1st dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 9, skip all middle stitches until you reach the next 2 dc, make 1 dc in each of those 2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in 3rd ch of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. Row 7- Skip first dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 sc in 3rd ch of ch-9, ch 5, 1 sc in 3rd from last ch of ch-9, ch 2, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in 3rd ch of turning ch. Ch 5, turn.
Repeat rows 2 to 7 for pattern until you have a strip that measures 18-1/2 inches, ending with Row 3.
Edge- Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 1 dc in each stitch (including chains) across (20 dc). Ch 3, turn the warming collar and begin to make dc across the edge widthwise (78 dc). Note: Every now and then, skip a chain so that your edge will not be wavy. Ch 3, turn the corner and dc all across the other side of the collar (20 dc). Ch 1, turn the corner, now you are at the top of the collar, sc across (81 sc). Ch 1, turn. Next row: 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, sc2tog in next sc, *1 sc in each of next 10 sc, sc 2tog in next sc, rep across, end row with 1 sc in each of last 8 sc (73 sc). Fasten off, weave in tail.
Solid Back Side- Join Burgundy. 1 sc in each of 1st 10 sc, sc 2tog in next sc, *1 sc in each of next 10 sc, sc2tog, in next sc, rep from * across. End row with 1 sc in each of last 2 sc (68 sc). Ch 3, turn (counts as 1st dc in each row.) Row 2- 1 dc in each of next 10 sc, 2 dc in next sc, rep 3 times, 1 dc in each of next 5 sc, 2 dc in next sc, twice, 1 dc in each sc to end of row (73 dc). Row 3- 1 dc in each of first 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc ineach dc to end (81dc). Ch 3, turn. Row 4- 1 dc in each dc across. Rows 5 to 8- 1 dc in each dc across (keep your tension. Do NOT crochet loosely!) Rows 9 to 12- 1 dc in each dc across. Ch 4, turn.
Edging- Sl st in same spot as ch 4, 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, 1 sc in next dc, ch 4, sl st in same sc, *1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 1 sc in next sc, ch 4, sl st in same sc, rep across from *. Fasten off, weave in tail.
Ties-Fold the collar over itself and, just at the point in which the solid dc sts end and the lace sts start, using Soft Navy and H hook, "tack" both sides together by inserting the hook through both sets of loops even as you join the yarn the make the first tie, secure the "tack" with a slip st. Ch 38. Butterfly Pulls- With Burgundy and H hook, ch 3, sl st to form ring. Ch 3, make 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, ch 3, sl st in ring. Ch 3, 1 dc, 1 tr, 1 dc, ch 3, sl st in ring. Fasten off. Attach "Butterflies" to ties as follows: Insert the end of 1 of the ties through the middle hole of the butterly (the ch-3 with which you began, pull a bit of the Soft Navy chain towards the back, folding the chain a bit over itself, then make a knot and segure well, leaving the "butterfly" hanging at the end of it.)

ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! It is very warm and you can play with the colors to make different effects (dark over light, light over dark), the lace doesn't show very well if both top and bottom are the same color.
