Cranberry Zing Tie



There are days in which you want some nice-looking no-fuss warmth around your neck, this tie is just for those days. The rich red adds punch and is just pretty and cheerful in gray, cold weather.

Size- 30" long x 4" wide

Materials-
Red Heart Cherry Red (1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Blunt needle to weave in tails
Scissors
Measuring tape
Red sewing thread
Red button to fit buttonhole (about 1 inch across)
Sewing needle


Tie-
With Cherry Red and H hook, ch 72.
Row 1- 1 hdc in third ch from hook, and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. (71 hdc)
Row 2- 1 dc in each hdc across. Ch 2, turn. (71 dc)
Row 3- 1 hdc in each dc across. (71 hdc) Ch 3, turn.
Row 4- 1 dc in each hdc across. (71 dc) Ch 2, turn.
Row 5- 1 hdc in each dc across. (71 hdc) Ch 3, turn.
Row 6- 1 dc in each hdc across. (71 dc) Ch 2, turn.
Row 7- 1 hdc in each dc across. (71 hdc) Ch 3, turn.
Row 8- 1 dc in each hdc across. (71 dc) Ch 2, turn.
Row 9- 1 hdc in each dc across. (71 hdc) Your strip should now be 21 1/2" long x 4" wide.
Fasten off Cherry Red, weave in tail.

Edges-
Edge #1-
Row 10- Join Cherry Red to narrow edge of tie. Work 15 sc across that narrow edge. Ch 1, turn.
Row 11- 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of last 2 sc. (12 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 12- 1 sc in each sc across. (12 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 13- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. (10 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 14- 1 sc in each sc across. (10 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 15- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, ch 4, skip 4 sc, 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. (Buttonhole made) (6 sc, 4 ch) Ch 1, turn.
Row 16- 1 sc in each sc and in each ch across. (10 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 17- 1 sc in each sc across. (10 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 18- 2 sc in each of first 2 sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc. (16 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 19- 1 sc in each sc across. (16 sc) Ch 3, turn.
Row 20- 1 dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, [1 dc in each of next 2 sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc,] rep 4 times, 2 dc in last sc of row. (12 dc, 5 ch) Ch 4, turn.
Row 21- Skip next sc, 1 dc in ch-1 sp, [ch 2, skip next 2 dc, 1 dc in ch-1 sp,] rep across row, end row by making a ch 2 and 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. (7 dc, 6 ch-2 spaces)
Row 22- 1 dc, ch 1, [1 dc in next ch-2 sp,] rep across row, 1 dc in top of turning ch. (2 dc, 6 1dc,ch1,1dc-shells) Ch 3, turn.
Row 23- 4 dc in same spot at ch-3, skip 3 sts, 1 sc in next stitch, skip 3 sts, 5 dc in next stitch, skip 3 sts, 1 sc in nest st, rep across. Fasten off Cherry Red, weave in tail.

Edge #2-
Row 24- Join Cherry Red to narrow edge of tie. Work 15 sc across that narrow edge. Ch 1, turn.
Row 25- 1 sc in each sc across. (12 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 26- 1 sc in each sc across. (12 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 27- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of last 3 sc. (10 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 28- 1 sc in each sc across. (10 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 29- 1 sc in each sc across. (10 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 30- 1 sc in each sc across. (10 sc)
Row 31- 1 sc in each sc across. (10 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 32- 2 sc in each of first 2 sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc. (16 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 33- 1 sc in each sc across. (16 sc) Ch 3, turn.
Row 34- 1 dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, [1 dc in each of next 2 sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc,] rep 4 times, 2 dc in last sc of row. (12 dc, 5 ch) Ch 4, turn.
Row 35- Skip next sc, 1 dc in ch-1 sp, [ch 2, skip next 2 dc, 1 dc in ch-1 sp,] rep across row, end row by making a ch 2 and 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. (7 dc, 6 ch-2 spaces)
Row 36- 4 dc in same spot at ch-3, skip 3 sts, 1 sc in next stitch, skip 3 sts, 5 dc in next stitch, skip 3 sts, 1 sc in nest st, rep across. Fasten off Cherry Red, weave in tail.

Note- Side #2 is 1 row shorter than Side #1 at the Edge, the reason is because of the gaping hole of the buttonhole, otherwise, the tie would look longer on one side than on the other.
We correct that by making one side shorter.

Thread sewing needle with red thread and sew button in place opposite to buttonhole. Fasten off, secure at back.
