Crunchy Stitch Neck Cozy

I came up with this stitch while tinkering with my hook and starting to make this neck cozy. Since it has some texture to it, I named it Crunchy stitch. It is very easy to make.
Materials:

Red Heart Hunter green
G crochet hook
3 green buttons about the size of a dime
green sewing thread
sewing needle
measuring tape
scissors

with G Ch 16. Row 1- 1 sc in 2nd ch of hk and in every ch across. Ch 3, turn (counts as 1 dc throughout). Row 2- 1 dc in each sc across. Row 3- 1 sc and 1 dc in first dc, skip next dc, 1 sc and 1 dc in next dc, *skip next dc, 1 sc and 1 dc in next dc, rep from * across until you reach the last stitch. Work 1 dc and 1 sc (inverted) in that last stitch. Ch 1, turn. Row 4- 1 sc in each sc across. Continue alternating rows 2 to 4 for pattern. Continue in this manner until your neck cozy measures 23-1/2 inches long,(or 59 rows) ending with a dc row. When you reach the end of your last row, ch 1, and insert the hook in the same dc you just made. Row 60- Make 1 row of sc across the edg widthwise.
Edging: Row 61- Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in each of next 2 sc, ch 3 skip 3 sc, *1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 3, skip 3 dc, rep from * across. Row 62- Ch 3, turn. Skip last 2 dc of prev row and make 4 dc in ch-3 space , * ch 3, skip next dc, make 1 sc in next dc, skip next dc, ch 3, make 4 dc in next ch-3 space, rpe from * across. Finish with 1 sc inthe middle of last 3-dc group from prev row. Fasten off. Hide tail. Place one end of the neck cozy over the other, crossing it and measure where you want your buttons to be placed. Sew the buttons on the side that would be underneath when you cross the cozy to close it up, place them so that the dc row that crosses over the buttons will serve as buttonholes.

Double Duty Cowlette

This is a nifty idea. A short cowl that can hug your neck and warm it, and which, by simply pulling at the cord and making a bow with it, can turn into a little hat!
Easy and fast to make with the nice texture of a pebbly Offset Cluster, you can make it in a single sitting if you are a fast crocheter!
Here's the pattern:

Materials:
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Cherry Red
Red Heart Soft Navy
Crochet hook size H
Scissors
A small piece of cardboard to make tassels (about 4 inches)

With Cherry Red and H hk, ch 17.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hk and in every ch across (15 dc). Row 2: q dc in next 2 dc, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, then make an Offset Cluster in this last dc this way: Yarn over, insert hk around the post of the this last dc made as if to make a dc, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hk, hold the last loops onthe hook and repeat until you have 5 unfinished dc in the hook, yarn over and pull up a loop through all loops on hook and slip st to secure, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc, work another Offset Cluster in this last dc made, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Ch 3, turn. Row 3- 1 dc in each dc and ch across, including in top of each Offset Cluster. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have completed 36 rows. Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew with. Row 37-With Soft Navy, sc across edge of the red fabric just finished. (71 sc made). Ch 1, turn. Row 38- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Row 39- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 2, turn. Row 40 (Eyelet row)- Skip 1 sc, sc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next sc, repeat across. Ch 1, turn. Row 41-1 sc in each st across. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Join Soft Navy to the other edge of the red side of the cowlette. Row 42-Sc in each st across (71 sc made). Row 43-Rep row 1. Ch 2, turn. Row 44- 1 hdc in each sc across. Ch 2, turn. Row 45-Rep row 44. Rows 46-47: Rep row 1. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with. Turn cowlette on wrong side and sew, using the tails you left as you worked.
Cord: Holding together a strand of Cherry Red and Of Soft Navy at the same time, and H hook, crochet a chain of 97 chains. Sl st in last loop, leave a medium-length tail on both ends. Make a knot on each end of the cord (do not tighten it). Straighten cowlette so that the back seam is int he middle of the back and threading a blent needle with one of the tails left on the cord, thread the cord in and out through the eyelet row, making sure both ends of the cord wind up in the center of the front of the cowlette.
Make two tassels (short like I made htem or long, if you like them that way), sew them to the ends of the cord. Fasten off.

Ladder Shells Neck Warmer

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Blue)
G size crochet hook
Blunt needle

Ch 26.
Row 1 (Right Side): Dc in 4th chain and in each of the next 2 chains, skip nest 2 chs and make 5 dc in next chain, chain 2, skip next 3 chains, amd make a dc in each of next 4 chains, repeat this twice. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, make 5 dc in next dc, skipping prev row ch 2 space, ch 2, skip next 4 dc,, make 5 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 4 dc, dc in each dc to end of row and in top of beg ch 3.
Continue to repeat row 2 until neck warmer measures 12 inches (20 complete rows of lace pattern). Ch 2, turn.
Row 21: Make 1 hdc in each stitch (including ch 2 spcaes) across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 22: Make 2sc tog at beg of row, 1sc in each of next 4 sts, 2sc tog, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2sc tog, 1 sc in each of hte following sts until you reach the last sts of the row, end row with 2sc tog. Ch 1, turn.
Row 23: 2sctog at beg of row, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sctog, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2sctog, 1 sc in each sc till you reach last 2 sc or row, make a 2sctog to end row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 24: 2sctog to start row, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2sctog, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sctog to end row. Ch 1,turn.
Row 25: 2sctog to start row, 1 sc in each sc across till you reach the last 2 sc, 2sctog to end row. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 26-27: Rep row 25.Ch 1, turn.
Row 28: 1 sc in each sc across (no decreases). 8 sc made. At the end of the row (after you have made the last sc2tog), ch 31.
Row 29: 1 sc in 3rd ch from hk and in each ch across until you reach again, the sc already made on the neck warmer. (DO NOT TWIST THE CHAIN AS YOU WORK!) Make 1 sc in each of the 8 sc remainng on the neck warmer. Ch 1, turn.
Row 30: 1 sc in each sc across (including strip made on the side of neck warmer). Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew.
Row 31: Join yarn at short edge of neck warmer on the opposite side to the long strip you just made. Make 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc. (10 sc made). Ch 1, turn.
Row 32: Rep row 31. Row 33: 1 sc in each of first 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Row 34: 1 sc in each of first 8 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 35: 2sc at beg of row, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next 2sc, 1 sc in each sc till you reach the last sc, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 36: 1 sc in each of first 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1, turn. Row 37: 2 sc to beg row, 1 sc in each sc across till you reach last sc, 2 sc in last sc. (26 sc made). Ch 3, turn.
Row 37: 1 dc in each of next 3 sc, skip next 3 sc, 5 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 3 sc, 1 dc in each of next 4 sc, skip 3 sc, 5 dc in next sc, ch 2, skip 3 sc, 1 dc in each of last 4 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 38: 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, make 5 dc in next dc, skipping prev row ch 2 space, ch 2, skip next 4 dc,, make 5 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 4 dc, dc in each dc to end of row and in top of beg ch 3.
Rep row 38 until you have completed 6 rows of lace. Fasten off.
Join yarn to the other end of the neck warmer.
Row 39: Ch 2, 1 hdc in each st across, including chains. Ch 1, turn.
Row 40: Make 2sc tog at beg of row, 1sc in each of next 4 sts, 2sc tog, 1 sc in each of next 4 sts, 2sc tog, 1 sc in each of hte following sts until you reach the last sts of the row, end row with 2sc tog. Ch 1, turn.
Row 41: 2sctog at beg of row, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sctog, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2sctog, 1 sc in each sc till you reach last 2 sc or row, make a 2sctog to end row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 42: 2sctog to start row, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2sctog, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sctog to end row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 43: 2sctog to start row, 1 sc in each sc across till you reach the last 2 sc, 2sctog to end row. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 44-45: Rep row 25.Ch 1, turn.
Row 46: 1 sc in each sc across (no decreases). 8 sc made. Row 47: Rep row 46. Row 48: Rep row 46.
Rows 47-50: 2s in first sc of row, 1 sc in each sc across, 2 sc in last sc of row.
Row 51: 2 sc at beg of row, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 52: 1 sc in each of first 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc. I sc in each sc to end of row. Ch 1, turn. Row 53: 2 sc in first sc of row, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in eac of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc to end row. Ch 1, turn. (26 sc made.)
Row 54: 1 dc in each of next 3 sc, skip next 3 sc, 5 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 3 sc, 1 dc in each of next 4 sc, skip 3 sc, 5 dc in next sc, ch 2, skip 3 sc, 1 dc in each of last 4 dc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 55: 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, make 5 dc in next dc, skipping prev row ch 2 space, ch 2, skip next 4 dc,, make 5 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip next 4 dc, dc in each dc to end of row and in top of beg ch 3.
Rep row 55 until you have completed 6 rows of lace. Fasten off.
Weave in tails. Pick up blunt needle and with the long tail you left to sew the strip made on the opposite side of neck warmer. Place the crocheted strip across the portion of the shell end as shown in photo and sew the end at the back. Fasten off. Clean up all loose threads.

Up and Down Triangles Lace Short Scarf

I've been making scarflettes and neck warmers because I was finding them faster to make to give away,but this parttern turned out so easy and fast to make that I wound up making a short scarf out of it.It is a wider-style scarf becaue it is meant to cozy-up the neck during those chilly winter days. It is not only meant to be pretty, but confortably warm.

Lace- Row 1: Ch 6, skip 4 dc, and make 3 dc in next dc, ch 3, skip 4 dc and work 1 dc in next dc, * ch 3, skip 4 dc, work 3 dc in next dc, ch 3, skip 4 dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * across. End row with 1 dc in last st. Ch 5, turn. Rows 2 and 3: As 2nd and 3rd rows of lace at beg of scarf. Continue alternating these rows until you have completed 5 rows of lace triangles. Ch 1, turn. Nest row: 1 sc in each st across. Fasten off and weave in tail.Join yarn to opposite side of scarf and do 1 row of sc across edge. Fasten off and weave in tail. You can leave your scarf as is or make long or short tassels. I chose to make cute small tassels.

Spider Lace Neck Wrap

This scarflette has a lovely and very feminine orchid color,but you can make it in any color you like.
Materials:
Red Heart Worsted weight Orchid
Size h crochet hook
blunt tapestry needle

Row 1- 1 dc in 4th ch from hk and in ever ch across. Ch 3, turn. Row 2- 1 dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. Ch 3, turn. Rows 19-25: Rep rows 3 to 9. Row 26: Rep row 10. Rows 27-61: Ch 3, 1 dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. Put a marker at the end of this row. Rows 62-75: Rep row 61, but without marking. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew. Thread a blunt tapestry needle with the yarn tail and, folding the neck wrap towards the wrong side, place the edge of the scarflette (last row you made) at the level of row 61 (where your marker is), pin it in place to secure it, then sew across as if it were a hem. Fasten off, weave in tail.
(Optional) Tassels: If you want to, you can leave it as is, you can make a row of tassels across the edge of the opposite (long) side of wrap, or you can make a row of decorative shells.

Shell And Bar Tie-Up Scarflette

I find neck warmers easier and faster to make than long scarves. I like them both, but when it is the season to give and you are making a bunch of them and honestly want to make some tracks, neck warmers are the smarter choice of them both, at least for me.
I am making all the neck warmers I am sharing here to give away, so, if you are looking for nice patterns to do the same, here's another find! The uniqueness of this one is that it ties up around your neck like a hankie.

Materials:
Worsted Weight yarn (I used Read Heart Hunter Green)
Size h crochet hook
Blunt needle
scissors
2"-long piece of cardboard
ruler or measuring tape

Chain 30 loosely.
Row 1-In 6th ch from hook make 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, * skip 2 ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, skip next 2 chs, work 2 dc, ch2, 2 dc in next ch; rep from * across till you reach the last 3 chains, then, skip two chains and make 1 dc in last chain of row.
Row 2- Ch3 (counts as 1 dc throughout), 2 dc, ch 2, dc in ch-2 space of first shell, 1 dc in top of each of next 2 dc, *2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in ch-2 space of next shell, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, repeat from * across, 1 dc in each of last 3 dc.

Row 34- 1 dec at start of row , 1 dc in each of next3 dc, 1 dec, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dec at end of row (6 sts left in row). Ch 1, turn. Row 35- 1 sc in each sc across. Row 36- Same as row 35. Ch 1, turn. Rows 36-47: 1 sc in each sc across, working on front loops only. Row 48-1 dec at beg of row, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 1 dec at end of row. Row 49-Working on both loops, make 1 sc in each sc across. Row 50- Rep previous row. Row 51- 1 sc at beg of row, 1 dec in next 2 sc, 1 sc at end of row. Rows 52-60: 1 sc in each sc across. Rows 61and 62- Makde 1 dec at start of row, in the middle and at end of row. Rep until you only have 1 st left. Fasten off, weave in tail.
Join yarn on other side of scarflette and repeat rows 29 to 62 on the other side. You will have a scarflette with two tying ends to which you will now sew a small tassel.
Tassel:
Cut two strands of yarn and lay them aside. Take your piece of cardboard and wind yarn around it, count the times you wind it so that your tassels will be equally thick. Carefully get your yarn off of the cardboard without mixing the strands and tangling them. Tie one of the strands of yarn you had laid aside around the "head" or topmost side of the would-be tassel. Secure well and then, taking the blund needle, slip both ends of the yarn you have tied it with and slip them under the tie, letting them hang among the tassel yarn. Repeat with the other tassel you need.
Measure them to the size you want with a ruler or a measuring tape, and trim the skirt of the tassel so that all the yarn pieces will have the same length. Do the same with the other tassel.
Take a piece of yarn and thread it through the blund needle, pass it throught he strands at the top of the tassel and sew the tassel to the end of the scarflette's tie. Repeat on the other side.
That's all!
Variations:
You can leave the ties as they are when you are done with the reductions (I always like to embellish) or you can add pompoms instead of tassels. You can also make a pompom tassel or butterfly tassel as follows: Follow the instructions for the tassels as given above. Tie very firmly. When you come to the time to trim your tassel, instead of trimming it in a straight cut all to the same length, trim to different lengths all around as if you were making a pompom. You can make your tassel longer than the one I chose to add to this scarflette. i wanted the tassels to look like little brushes, but if you like longer, classic tassels, make them way.

Boxy Neck Warmer

Easy as they come and nice to boot! If you are making little gifts to delight your friends for the Holidays, this one might qualify for your list! An added bonus is the little frog closure which you can easily learn to make and which will be very useful for many other things, such as purses, shoulder swraps, cardigans, you name it!
Note- Because some of you were asking me questions about this neck warmer. I took out the previous pattern and remade it completely new. In a simpler format that is even easier than the first but has the same handsome results. (Please, do not ask for the previous pattern, it has been deleted!)
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn of your choice (I used Red Heart Claret for the neck warmer and a little bit of Red Heart Lipstick for the frog-style closure.)
G hook
tapestry needle
button of your choice
of your choice
Ch 30 loosely.
Note 1- Ch 3 stands for 1st dc of row throughout.
Note 2- ALWAYS work your edging loops on a right side row.
Row 1- Dc in 4th ch from hk and in each chain across. Ch 3, turn.(28 dc)
Row 2- 1 dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3- 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 8 dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Ch 3, turn.

Rows 8 to 34- Rep row 4 and row 5 alternately. Ch 3, turn.
Row 35- 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, skip first ch of ch-3 space, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, skip 1st ch of ch-3 sp and make 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, skip 1st ch of ch-3 sp and make 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, skip 1st ch of next ch-s space and make 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, continue this way until you have completed 28 sts across, including beginning ch-3. Chain 3, turn. (28 dc)
Row 36- 1 dc in each dc across.

Row 37- Ch 2, hold loop on hook, yo, insert hook in next dc, pull up a loop, yo, pass yarn through first two loops in next stitch as if to begin a double crochet, yo, finish both stitches together by pulling hte last yarn through all loops that you are holding on your hook. (Decrease or dc2tog made.) Work 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, then, yo, insert hook in next dc and pull up loop as if to make a dc, leave unfinished, yo, repeat with next dc, yo and pull yarn through all loops on hook (dc2tog made), make 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of last 2 dc. (25 dc)

Row 38- Decrease over first 2 dc at start of row, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of last 3 dc. (22 dc)
Row 39- Start with a dec, make 1 dc in each of next 20 dc, 1 dec at end of row. (21 dc)

Row 40- 1 dec at beg of row, 1 dc in each of next 7 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 9 dc, dc2tog over last 2 dc to end the row.(19 dc)
Row 41- 1 decrease at beg of row, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 8 dc, dc2tog to end row. (16 dc)

Row 42- 1 dec at beg of row, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, dc2tog over next 4 dc, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc, dc2tog over last 2 dc to end row. (13 dc)
Row 43- Decrease at beg of row over first 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, dc2tog over last 2 dc. (10 dc)
Row 44- 1 Dec at beg of row, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, dc2tog over next 2 dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, dc2tog over last 2 dc. (7 dc) Ch 3 turn.
Row 45- 1 dc in each of next 6 dc.
Repeat the last 5 rows on opposite side of neck warmer. Make edging on both sides as follows:
Mark last row as Right Side. Loop Edging: Ch 25, sl st in same space, 1 sc in next st, rep across till you reach the last 2 sts, ch 25, slip st in same space, (no sc in between.)Fasten off. Weave in tail.
Join yarn on the other side of neck warmer and rep rows 37 to Loop Edging on that side. Fasten off and weave in tail.

Frog-style closure: With Lipstick yarn and G hook, make a crab stitch braid that is 10 inches long. Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew with.
You can make your closure in several ways, but let's try a simple one. Bend the crab stitch cord you just made in half, take the left leg of that bent cord and cross it over the right side leg, forming a loop, without undoing that loop, insert that same leg of cord into the center of the loop and pull gently, until you have a nice knot that looks almost like a Josephine knot, and two pieces of crab cord at both ends. You are going to bend those two pieces of cord and sew them with the tail you left, one upwards and one downwards, to form your frog. Then you will sew this to the neck warmer at a height that is comfortable to close it around the neck, using the small loops of the crab cord to anchor your stitches. Fasten off. Sew button opposite loop of the frog closure on the other side of the neck warmer. Fasten off.
Note: Since this is a closure and it will pulled ever time the neckwarmer is used, sew your stitches firmly, not tight, but firm so that the pretty frog will not come apart.

Lacy Keyhole Neck Warmer

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn of your choice (I used Red Heart Coffee and Cafe yarns)
H size crochet hook
Note: Puff Stitch: Yo, insert hook into the specific stitch, yarn over, insert hook back into the same stitch (3 lps on hk), repeat all these steps twice more (if necessary, count your loops, which must be 7 lps on hook), yarn over and pull yarn through all loops on hook. If you wnat to, make a single crochet stitch or 1 chain, to complete the stitch better. I didn't do it because I needed a certain amount of stitches and did not want to be thrown off by an extra chain or stitch. If you do add this stitch or chain, please be aware of your addition and skip that stitch when working the subsequent rows.
Keyhole:
With Coffee yarn and H hook, ch 34. Sl st in beginning ch, being careful not to twist. Ch 1.
Rnd. 1- Sc in each sc around, sl st to join round. Ch 3.
Rnd. 2- 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next sc, *1 dc innext sc, 2 dc in each of last 2 sc, rep around till last 2 sts, 1 dc in each of last 2 sc, sl st to end rnd. Ch 1.
Rnd. 3- 1 sc in each of next 2 dc, 1 sc in each of next 4 dc, 2 sc in next dc, 1 sc in each of next 3 dc, 2 sc in next dc, 1 sc in each of next 5 dc, 2 dc in next dc, *1 sc in each of next 5 dc, 2 sc in next dc, rep from * around to end of rnd. Sl st to end rnd. Fasten off. Weave in tail. Stretch the resulting circle into an oval.
Lace:
Join Cafe to one of the edges of the oval.
Row 1 (Base row)- Ch 4, 1 Tr. in next st, 1 dc in each of next 2 sc, 1 hdc in each of next 11 sc, 1 dc in each of next 2 sc, 1 Tr in each of next 2 sc. Ch 3, turn.
Row 2- 1 dc in each of next dc, puff stitch in next stitch (see note), 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, *1 puff st in next st, 1 dc in each of next 3 sts, rep from * across. Ch 4, turn.
Row 3- Skip 1 stitch from prev row, 1 dc in next st, *ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, rep from * across. Ch 3, turn.
Rep rows 2 and 3 alternately until you have reached 22 inches, measruing from row 1 (base row).
Shell Edging:
Ch 3, make 2 dc ch 2, 2 dc in same space, skip 3 sts, make 1 sc in next st, skip 3 sts, *make 2dc, ch 2 2dc in next stitch, skip 3 sts, make 1 sc in next st, rep from * across. Fasten off. Weave in tail.
Keyhole Side:
With Cafe, join to one of the edges of the bottom of the oval.
Row 1- Repeat row 1 of lace.
Row 2- Repeat row 2 of lace.
Row 3- Repeat row 3 of lace.
Continue repeating rows 2 and 3 alternately until you have completed 12 rows, including the base row.
Shell Edging: Make the same shell edging you made on the other side of the neck warmer. Fasten off and weave in tail. This side must measure at least 7 inches from base row to edge of shell edging.
That's all there it to this project. Enjoy!
You can use a contrasting color for the keyhole. For example, you can make your keyhole red and your lace royal blue, or any combination you would like.

I am making scarves and neck warmers to give away, and I thought I'd share them with you all. Row 29- 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, dc2tog over next 2 ch, 1 dc in next sc, 1 dc in each of next 3 ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, dc2tog over next 2 ch, 1 dc in each stitch and ch till end of row. (20 dc) Row 30- Sc2tog (reduce sc) as follows: draw up a loop in each of next 2 dc, yo, draw up loop through all loops on hook. 1 sc in each of next 16 dc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, Ch 1, turn. (18 sc). Row 31- Sc2tog over first 2 sc, 1 sc in each sc till last 2 sc, sc2tog voer last 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. (16 sc). Row 32- Sc2tog over first 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in next sc, sc2tog over last 2 sc. (10 sc). Ch 1, turn. Row 33- 1 sc in each of first 4 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of sc to end of row. (9 sc). Ch 1, turn. Row 34- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in next sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in last sc. (7 sc). Ch 1, turn. (6 sc) Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew. Bend it inwards towards the wrong side, and, threading blunt needle with leftover tail, sew it to the row above the beginning row (row 36) to form a loop. Weave in end. Join yarn to the other end of the neck warmer. Opposite side- row 1: Rep row 30 of opposite side. Row 2: Rep row 31 of opposite side. Row 3- Rep row 32 of opposite side. Row 4- Rep row 33 of opposite side. Row 5- Rep row 34 of opposite side. Row 6- Rep row 35 of opposite side. Rows 7 to 8- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (6 sc) Rows 9 to 10- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (6 sc) Rows 11 to 12- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Peek A Bit Scarflette

This stylish and easy scarflette is based on the Peek A Bit Block (http://craftybegonia.blogspot.com/2009/10/peek-bit-shell-stitch-or-afghan-block.html) we made last week. To start it, you work the block and keep going. Here's how:

Materials:
worsted weight yarn, I chose a nice Red Heart Cherry Red
H size crochet hook
F size crochet hook
blunt needle
scissors
pins
measuring tape
regular sewing needle and matching thread
wooden button or button of your choice that would fit closure loop
Ch 29.
Row 1- 1 dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. (Ch 3 counts as first dc in every row throughout.) Row 2- Skip next 2 dc, make 6 dc in next dc (shell made), skip 4 dc, make shell in next dc, skip 4 dc, make 1 shell in next dc, skip 4 dc, make shell in next dc, rep across, untilyo have 5 shells. When you hve reached the last 5 dc, skip 4 of those dc and make 1 last dc at end of row. Ch 3,turn. Row 3- Work 1 dc in each of next 5 dc over shell in previous row, skip last dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc across shell of prev. row, skip last dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc of shell , skip last dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc of shell (do not skip last dc of shell), 1 dc in each dc across next shell and in top of starting ch-3. Join yarn at other end of scarflette and repeat rows 30 to 42 on that side. Fasten off and weave in tail.
Closure: I decided to give this scarflette an Oriental-style closure. This is the simplest one I've ever made and I think anyone can make it. I also decided to use a purchased wooden button instead of knot button because it is easier as well, but my mind's wheels are turning. I would like to make and teach other closures as well, so stay tuned.
To make this closure you have to decide on a cord to make. The easiest and most pliable one is the crab stitch cord, used very often in modern Russian Irish-style crochet.
I have my own way of making it, so I will try to explain it here as follows:
With F crochet hook and the red yarn, and leaving a nice tail, make a loop as if to start crocheting. Make 2 ch.
Row 1: make 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not ch 1. Turn. Row 2: insert the hook in the loops that formed on the side of the sc made, not on the top loop usually used, pull up a loop and complete sc as usual. Turn. Row 3: insert hook in the loops that formed on the side of the sc made in the prev row, pull up a loop and complete sc as usual. Turn. Row 4: Insert hook in the little loops that formed on the previous row on the opposite side of the loop you have in your hook, draw a loop through those loops and complete an sc. Turn.
Repeat this process until your strip of cord measures 8 1/2 inches. Fasten off, leaving a very long tail, sufficient to sew all the decorative gathers, I would say about 1/2 yard of yarn (better to have too much than not to have enough). With the f hook, make two chains at the end of the strip of cord that has the shortest yarn tail. Pull yarn through. Thread your blunt needle with that smaller tail and make it disappear into the cord. Now, pick up the scarflette and counting from the bottom sc row upward, lay the strip of cord, folded inhalf, with the ends meeting and the middle forming a loop facing the other edge of the scarflette, and pin it in place. Thread the blunt needle with the long yarn tail and working inside the loops of your cord, sew it to the scarflette as invisibly as possible. As you go, make long "bundles" of stitches, bar-tacking with vertical stitches to close up the cord even more and to decorate even further. Repeat across, using the photo to guide yourself as to where to do it, or follow your own taste.
Fasten off. Sew wooden button on opposite side of scarflette at the right level to meet the loop of the closure.

Peek a Bit Shell Stitch or Afghan Block

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
Size "H" crochet hook

Ch 29.
Row 1- 1 dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. (Ch 3 counts as first dc in every row throughout.)
Row 2- Skip next 2 dc, make 6 dc in next dc (shell made), skip 4 dc, make shell in next dc, skip 4 dc, make 1 shell in next dc, skip 4 dc, make shell in next dc, rep across, untilyo have 5 shells. When you hve reached the last 5 dc, skip 4 of those dc and make 1 last dc at end of row. Ch 3,turn.
Row 3- Work 1 dc in each of next 5 dc over shell in previous row, skip last dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc across shell of prev. row, skip last dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc of shell , skip last dc of shell, 1 dc in each of next 6 dc of shell (do not skip last dc of shell), 1 dc in each dc across next shell and in top of starting ch-3. Ch 3, turn.
Row 4- Make 1 dc in each dc across.
Row 5- Rep. row 2. Row 6- Rep row 3. Row 7- Rep row 4. Continue repeating these rows in this sequence for pattern, if you wish to use it for a scarf or something like that. For an afghan block or strip: If you would like to use this pattern for a sampler afghan, to combine it with other blocks, make a swatch with the hook you will be using for the other blocks and make sure you will be getting the exact gauge so that the block will fit perfectly with the size of your other blocks and simply make the pattern repetions until you reach the size of your other blocks. If you will be doing a mile-a-minute type of strip lapghan, just keep on going up until you reach the size you want.
You can also use this stitch for a stole. I have started a scarf with it and I like the feel. Not too heavy, and yet warm

Sleek Urban Neck Warmer

This neck warmer will look nice with any coat!

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn in two contrasting colors (I used Red Heart Burgundy and Cherry Red)Size H crochet hook

Size "B" crochet hookMeasuring tape1 button Sewing needleThread of matching color to sew button
Neck Warmer:

With Burgundy and size H hook, ch 111. Row 1- 1 dc in 4th ch from hk and in every dc across. Ch 3, turn. Row 2- 1 dc in every dc across. Ch 3, turn. Rows 3 to 10- Rep row 2. Fasten off. Weave in tail.Surface crochet:With Cherry Red, Make a loop, lay loop on top of the posts of the dc while holding the running thread right underneath, and inserting the hook pull up thread and make a slip st over the dc, continue all across. Turn at the edge of the scarf and repeat over every row. Fasten off.Semi-Circle (Make 2)With Burgundy and H hook, ch 2. Make 5 sc in 2nd ch from hk. DO NOT CLOSE RING. Ch 1, turn. Row 2- Make 2 sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 3- Make 2 sc in 1st sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, rep. to end of row. Ch 1, turn. Row 4- Make 2 sc in first sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep to end. Row 5- Make 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep to end of row. Ch 1, turn. Row 6- Make 1 sc in each of first 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep across. Ch 1, turn. Row 7- Make 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep across. End with 1 sc in each of last 4 sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 8- Make 1 sc in eachof next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep across, ending with 1 sc in each of last 4 sc. Ch 1, turn. Row 9- Make 1 sc in each of next 6 c, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep to end. Ch 1, turn. Row 10- 1 sc in each of next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 9 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in eachof last 4 sc. Fasten off. Leave long tail. With Cherry Red, surface crochet chains all around the semi-circle rows. Fasten off. With the Burgundy tail, sew the semi-circle to one end of neck warmer. Fasten off and weave in tail. Surface crochet: With Cherry Red, make a loop and lay it over the sc on the second row of the semi-circle, and inserting the hook right in between it and the next sc, pull up thread and complete a slip st, continue all across, molding the cahin to the roundness of the piece. Continue till you have 5 chain rows. Fasten off.

Take the measuring tape and measuring from the edge of the semi-circle upward, measure 10 inches. Sew button there. On the opposite side of neck warmer, at the height of the button, make a buttonhole as follows: With B crochet hook and Burgundy, join yarn to edge of neck warmer with a slip st. Ch 3, skip 1 dc on the neck warmer and join the loop with a slip stitch, then work 4 sc on the loop, over the ch sts, sl st on next dc. Fasten off. Adapt this to the size of your chosen button.

I chose to use a small button, but you can use any button you like, even a yarn one made by yourself, depending on how causal your use of the neck warmer will be. If you are giving it away as a gift, as I am, you can make the button as discreet as I have done or as fancy as your preference will make it.

Materials:
Worsted weight yarn (can be scraps from your stash)
Size "H" crochet hook

Make 2 exactly alike (to finish faster, make them simultaneously). Ch 37.
Row: 1- dc in 4th ch from hk, 1 dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of next 13 ch. Skip 4 ch, 1 dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch, 2 dc in next ch, 1 dc in eac of last chs. (18 dc on each side of "V." Fasten off. Weave in tail.
Row 2- Change color. Ch 3 (counts as 1s dc), 1 dc in each of next 17 dc, 2 dc in next to last dc, skip last dc of this side of "V" plus 3 dc of the other side (4 dc skipped), 1 dc in next dc (after skipping dcs), 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 7 dc. Ch 3, turn. Row 19- Using same color. 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 10 dc, skip last dc of row and 1st of opposite side of "V", make 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each dc to end of row. Ch 3, turn. Row 20- With same color. 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, 4 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 9 dc, skip last dc and 1st dc of opposite side of "V" and make 1 dc in each of next 7 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each dc to end of row. Ch 3, turn. Row 21- With same color. Make 1 dc in next 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc, 1 dc in each of next 11 dc, skip last dc and 1st dc of opposite side of "V" and make 1 dc in each of next 11 dc, 2 dc innext dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Ch 3, turn. Row 22- (Straight row). With same color, make 1 dc in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. Rows 23 to 24- Rep row 22. Fasten off. Weave in tail. Row 25- Change color and rep row 22. Rows 26 to 28- With same color, rep row 22. Fasten off, weave in tail.
Rep all 28 rows with other piece. Sew both pieces together on straight edge, matching color and stitches. Fasten off and weave in tail.
Gathering strap:
Beginning at point of left side of neck warmer, count 11 rows up. Join yarn to edge of that row. Ch 23.
Row 1- 1 sc in 3rd ch from hook and all across. Row 2- Ch 1, turn. 1 sc in each sc across. Fasten off, leaving long tail. Sew strap to other side of "V", gathering it. This strap will serve to keep neck warmwer snuggly in place around neck of wearer.
Clean up yarn threads.
Make 2 tassels to sew at the points of the "V" on each end of the neck warmer.
You're finished!
Variation: Instead of tassels you can make pompoms and sew them to the points of the "V" on each side of the neck warmer.
How to Make a Tassel:
To make a simple tassel, cut a piece of cardboard a little bit larger than the length you want your tassels to be. Wind the amount of yarn you would like around the cardboard. Carefully take your bundle of yarn out of the card. Thread a tapestry needle and pass the needle through all the threads in your bundle. Then, using another length of yarn, tie the tassel tightly. Trim your tassels to be of the same size. Use the length of yarn in the tapestry needle to sew the tassel to the granny triangle point. Fasten off.
Or you can use your favorite method of tassel-making and even vary your tassels!
