Vintage Green Lacy Warming Collar

Best Blog Tips

I am very fond of warming collars because they are not only snugly and warm, but they are also beautiful, allowing you to use lace and pretty stitches for something that otherwise wouldn't be holey, like a neckwarmer in winter! This one is simple but is definitely pretty. It is done with pleasant greens, which remind of warmer days to come. Hope you like it!

Materials:
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Tea Leaf
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Honeydew
Blunt needle
Crochet hook size H
Scissors

(Note: some of you have asked me how much yarn my scarfs and other neck wearables take, unless otherwise noted, only 1 skein, or scraps of various colors!)

Lace 1-
With Honeydew, ch 12.
Row 1- 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, skip 3 ch, 4 dc in next ch, ch 3, skip 3 ch, 4 dc in last ch of row. Ch 6, turn.
Row 2- 4 dc in first dc of row, ch 3, 4 dc in first dc of next shell, ch 3, 4 dc in last dc of next shell, ch 3, turn.
Row 3- 4 dc in first dc of row, ch 3, 4 dc in first dc of next shell, ch 3, 4 dc in last dc of next shell, ch 6, turn.
Rep rows 2 and 3 alternately until your lace measures 25 inches.

Top edge- Row 1- (This will form the long lining of the collar that will provide the warmth and also the pretty contrast to showcase the lace.) Working horizontally across top (not the side that has the long loops), Ch 3, 1 sc in first dc of next shell, ch 3, 1 sc in bottom of first dc of next shell, rep across.
When you reach end of row, ch 3, 1 sc in top of first dc, ch 1, 1 sc in bottom of same dc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2- Skipping sc sts, make 1 sc in each ch across. 1 sc in top of last sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3- 1 sc in each of first 10 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, rep across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4- 1 sc in each across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 5- 1 sc in each sc across. Fasten off Honeydew, weave in tails.
Row 6- Join Tea Leaf. Work 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 7- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 8- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 9 to 21- 1 hdc second stitch and in each hdc across. Ch 3, turn.

Note 2- There is no mistake when you reach ch 1, turn in each hdc row. You see, that will tend to make the rows narrow a bit on both edges sot hat the "lining" will not stick out from the lace.

Row 22- (Lining Edging): 3 dc in same spot as ch 3, ch 2, skip 2 hdc, [4 dc in next hdc, ch 2, skip 2 hdc, 4 dc in next hdc] rep across. Fasten off, weave in tail.

Finishing off- Closure: You can close your warming collar in many ways. If you want to, crochet a loop (don't leave it with only chains, because it will wear out with use and it will break, but sc around the chains!) and you can close it with a nice button of your choice.
Or two or three smaller ones. But I've chosen to use ties.

Fold warming collar over itself, making lacy part match with darker lining. With crochet hook size G and Honeydew, sc together the
edge of both (insert the hook through both the edge of the lace and the edge of the darker underside as you make the new sc) all the way from
the bottom to the top. (21 sc) (first side secured.)
Continuing with Honeydew and G hook, now ch 55 chains to makie the first tie.
Make 4 dc in 4th ch from hook, 5 dc in next chain, and in each of next 6 chains. 4 dc and 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in next ch and in each ch to end of row. (First tie finished.) Slip stitch to end row.

Repeat the same on the other side. Fasten off. Weave in tails.
