Eglantine

Best Blog Tips

I love the almost wild sweet briar roses, especially, the climbing ones with rosy-red or just deep rose blooms. Eglantine is one of those. Even thou Eglantine's blooms are most of the time pink, the rose hips are a vivid color, so I decided to name this short scarf after that lovely rose.

Note- Side #2 is 1 row shorter than Side #1 at the Edge, the reason is because of the gaping hole of the buttonhole, otherwise, the tie would look longer on one side than on the other.
We correct that by making one side shorter.

Thread sewing needle with red thread and sew button in place opposite to buttonhole. Fasten off, secure at back.

Sapphire Lace Scarflet

Best Blog Tips

The classic, go-with-anything quality of navy blue has made it an enduring color in women's closets for generations!
The convenience of the color has been softened by the presence of lace edges to create a relatively simple to make, feminine scarflet that wears easy and well. For your convenience, I used a readily available and affordable yarn.

Materials-

Red Heart worsted weight yarn, Soft Navy (1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Blunt needle (to weave in tails)
Scissors

Side #1-
With Soft Navy and H hook, ch 26.
Row 1- 1 sc in second ch from hook, skip 4 ch, work 7 dc in next ch, *skip 4 ch, work 7 dc in next ch, rep from * across, end row with 1 sc in last ch. Ch 5, turn. (4 seven-dc shells plus 2 sc.)
Row 2- Skip first 2 dc of first shell, 1 dc in next dc of shell, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 4, skip last 2 dc of shell and also skip the first 2 dc of next shell, *1 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, skip last 2 dc of current shell, ch 4, skip first 2 dc of next shell, work 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * across, end row as follows, ch 2, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. (10 dc and 4 ch-4 spaces)
Row 3- 3 dc in same stitch as ch 3, *skip all the way to the next ch-4 space, skip first ch of ch-4 space and work 7 dc in next ch, skip next 2 ch, rep from * across, end row by working 4 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 7, turn. (5 shells)
Row 4- Skip all dc of first shell and the first 2 dc of next shell, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next dc, *ch 4, skip all the way to the third dc of next shell, 1 dc in that stitch, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * across, finish row as follows, ch 4, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn. (8 dc and 4 ch-4 spaces)
Row 5- Skip first 2 ch of ch-4 space, work 7 dc in next ch, skip last ch of ch-4 sp, *skip all the way to the 3rd ch of next ch-4 space, make 7 dc in that ch, skip next ch, rep from * across, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 5, turn. (4 shells plus 2 dc)
Row 6- Rep row 2. Ch 3, turn.
Row 7- Rep row 3. Ch 4, turn.
Row 8- Skip second dc of first shell, ch 1, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, *skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, rep from *across, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 4, turn.
Row 9- 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, *1 dc in next dc, ch 1, rep from * across, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 4, turn. (15 sc, 14 ch-1 sp)
Rows 10 to 13- Rep row 9. Ch 4, turn. (15 sc, 14 ch-1 sp)

skip next ch, 1 tr in top of turning ch, (23 tr) Ch 3, turn.
Row 15- 1 dc in each tr across. Ch 4, turn. (23 dc)

Row 19- 1 dc in each tr and in each ch across. (23 sts) (Keyhole completed.) Ch 4, turn.
Row 20- 1 tr in each dc across. Ch 3, turn. (23 tr)
Rows 21 to 35- Alternate 1 dc row and 1 tr row. (23 sts) Fasten off Soft Navy and weave in tail.

Side #2-
Note-
This side of the scarflet will be 1 row shorter than the opposite side, because of the gaping hole of the keyhole, if you make it the same length as the other side,
it will appear to be longer, and the ends won't match. If you make it one row shorter, the ends match perfectly.

Fasten off and weave in tail. Repeat on opposite narrow edge of scarfie. Fasten off and weave in tail.

Snail Frog Closure-
With Bright Yellow and H hook, leaving a long tail at the start, ch 2.
Row 1- 1 sc in second ch from hook. Turn. (NO ch 1)
Row 2- Take a close look at the side of your stitches, there is a tiny loop on the side, insert hook into that loop and pull up yarn
through it, now you have two loops on hook, yo, and pull yarn through all loops on hook. Turn. (NO ch 1)
Row 3- Now you will see that 2 loops have formed on the side of your stitches, insert hook through BOTH of those loops and pull up yarn,
yo, and pull yarn through all loops on hook. Turn. (NO ch 1)
Row 4- Rep row 3.
Rows 5 to 32- Rep row 3. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.

Note 1- Notice that little loops form at the edge of your rope as you crochet, you will be using those little loops to sew up your frog closure.

Forming the Snail-

Thread blunt needle with leftover tail. Turn the end of the cord into a circle, and using the loops on the edges, stitch your circle, continue to
turn the rope around itself and to sew, until you have only 3 inches of rope left. (Use a measuring tape to make sure.) Fasten off and secure yarn
at back of the circle formed. (this is the snail's shell.) You can now snip the leftover yarn or leave to use it to attach your frog closure to the scarfie, that is what I will do.
Now, Turn the leftover rope around towards the "shell" you just formed. This is the rest of the snail and also the buttonhole loop of your frog closure. Using the tail you left at the beginning
of your rope, sew the buttonhole loop to the "shell", secure at back of rope. Now, take a good look at your snail. If the "shell" is too much to the side, simply, turn the circle a bit, towards the top of the buttonhole loop and secure in place by sewing the side loops together. Secure at back. If you consider that the buttonhole loop is too large for the button you have selected, simply sew a couple of side loops together ont he inside of the buttonhole loop and then bring the yarn to the back of the rope. Fasten off. Secure at back.

How to sew to scarfie:
Match scarfie's ends. Pin Snail Frog in place and sew. Fasten off, secure well, so it will not come off with use! Sew matching button. Fasten off.

Note 2- I made mine in the opposite direction in which usually people make buttonholes. You can make your frog in the opposite direction to mine. Just start twisting your circle on the opposite side of the rope!

Done!

Cherry Ice Cream Warming Collar

Best Blog Tips

This is my after-Christmas gift for all of you who love pretty things! A warming collar is a lovely piece that can substitute a scarf in a really nice way. This one is very easy to make, I hope you enjoy it.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all you blessings and good things in the coming New Year!

I used Red Heart Candy Print for this collar. I love the way this yarn turns almost anything you make into a swirl of delicious pink!

Materials-1 skein Red Heart worsted weight variegated yarn Candy Print
Red heart worsted weight Pretty ‘N Pink (about half of a skein or less)
Crochet hook sizes H and G
Blunt needle
Scissors

We will start the scarf on its narrow end and will form the width this way, then we will work upwards.
Ch 8.
Row 1- 1 dc in fourth ch from hook, 1 dc in each of next 2 ch, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in last ch. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2- In the first ch-2 sp, work 1 sc, 2 dc, 1 sc, in the next ch-2 sp, make 1 sc, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, 1 sc, in the last ch-2 sp, work 1 sc, 2 dc, 1 sc, in the next ch-2 sp, ch 2, 1 dc in last 3 dc, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3- Skip first dc (ch 3 stands as 1 dc of row throughout) 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 2, skip all the way to ch-2 sp in center shell, work 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in that ch-2sp, ch 1, turn.
Rep rows 2 and 3 for pattern until you have reached 31 inches or a total of 50 rows. Fasten off Candy print and weave in tail.

Note 1- We have just finished the width of the collar, and will be working vertically now.

Row 51- Join Candy Print to top edge of collar (in top of last dc row which is now lying horizontally) and work a ch 4, skip 1 space across the dc row and make 1 dc, ch 1, *skip 1 space, make 1 dc, ch 1, rep from * across. (67 dc) Ch 4, turn.
Row 52- 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, *1 dc in next dc, ch 1, rep from * across. (67 dc) Ch 4, turn.
Row 53- Skip first dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, *1 dc in next dc, ch 1, rep from * across. (67 dc) Ch 1, turn.

Row 55- 1 sc in each of first 10 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, [1 sc in each of next 10 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc] rep 3 times, 1 sc in each sc till end of row. (63 sc) Fasten off Candy Print, weave in tail.

Row 60- 1 dc in each tr across. (68 dc) Fasten off Pretty ‘N Pink. Weave in tail.
After you finish the Lining, pull it down so that it falls appropriately behind the top of the collar. Sew collar lining to the edge of Candy Print collar, as invisibly as possible to make sure that the lining will stay in place. Fasten off, weave in tail. Repeat on opposite side of collar. Fasten off, weave tail. Work on ties and pom poms.

Ties (Make 2)-With Candy Print and G hook, ch 61.
