Cowls have been so tremendously popular with Craftybegonia's friends everywhere that I have decided to make them more often. Here is a super easy one that you can make in a jiffy for yourself or to give as a gift. It would also make a great charity project. It is somewhat lacy but still sufficiently chunky to provide warmth and feel cozy. Enjoy!

Materials-
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Lavender (1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Blunt needle (to weave in ends)
Scissors

Size- 15 inches long (31 inches around)
Skill- Advanced beginner onwards.

With Lavender and H hook, ch 110, sl st to join into a long ring, making sure not to twist the chain.
Rnd 1- Ch 3 in same spot as sl st, 1 dc in each of next 4 ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, *1 dc in each of next 4 ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, rep from * around 20 times, 1 dc in each ch till end of rnd, sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 2- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next ch-1 sp, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, rep around 19 times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 dc in each stitch till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 3- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 sp, *ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc and in next ch sp, rep from * around 19 times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each stitch till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 4- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 space, *ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1, sp, rep from * 20 times around, ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc in each dc till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 5- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, *1 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, rep from * around a total of 20 times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each dc till end of rnd, sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 6- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, rep from * 18 more times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each dc till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 7- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 space, ch 1, skip 1 dc, * 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 dc in ch 1 space, ch 1, skip 1 dc, rep from * around for a total of 20 times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each dc till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 8- Rep Rnd 6.

This is one of those sweet and short pieces you can carry in your bag and you wrap around your neck when you feel a chilly wind. It is very easy, effective and it works up fast! This scarflet will work out really well in worsted weight yarn but you can make it in a bulkier weight if you prefer, but if you change the thickness of the yarn, please make a sample to check the gauge.

Skill- Relatively easy.

Size- Approximately, 26 1/2" L  x  4 1/4"

Materials-

Red Heart worsted weight yarn Burgundy (1 skein)

Red Heart worsted weight yarn Shocking Pink (3 oz, approximately)

Scissors

Blunt needle (to weave in tails)

With Burgundy and H hook, ch 55.

Working on narrow end of scarflet:

Sew Flower to correspond with buttonhole

Note- This Flower makes a tight fit, if you would like to substitute another flower, you may do so. I wanted a larger Flower so that the scarflet won't fly open with use.

This one is for all of you chocolate lovers! It has the rich, dark color of chocolate (even if the main yarn is called coffee) with two changes of color to give it interest. It is a keyhole scarf (long) and ends in a pretty lace that is totally simple to make yet very effective so that this scarf can be warm and cozy yet feminine and lovely. Enjoy!

This is a cute scarflet and not difficult to make at all. You can make it in two sittings. This is a specially fun scarflet for a young woman or a teen.

Materials:Red Heart worsted weight yarn Claret
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Candy Print (variagated)
Crochet hook size H
Scissors
Blunt needle to weave ends
Measuring tape

Rosettes- (Make 2) With Claret, ch 2. Rnd 1- Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, slip st to join rnd. Rnd 2- 2 sc in each sc around.
Rnd 3- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, *1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep from * around.
Rnd 4- 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. Rnd 5- 1 sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around.
Rnd 6- 1 sc in each of first 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep from * around. Rnd 7- 1 sc in each of first 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc, *1 sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep from * around.
Fasten off. Weave in tail. Ruffles- First Part (Loops): With Candy Print, and working over the sc rows already made, work as follows: *Insert hook in front of the designated stitch horizontally, push it under the stitch, and out on the other side, yo and pull harn under the stitch (2 loops on hook), yo, pull yarn through both loops on hook, ch 3, skip 2 sc, rep from * around.
Row 1- Insert hook on fourth row of Claret round, counting from the center till the fourth row, and work ruffle loops all around as explained above.
Second Part (ruffles)- Ch 3 in first loop made, 4 dc in loop, ch 2, 1 sc in top of next loop (the one formed just where you joined), *5 dc in next loop, ch 2, 1 sc in top of the little loop that naturally formed where you joined the loops, rep from * around. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Edge- Join Candy Print and working on both loops, ch 3, skip 1 sc, 4 dc in next sc, ch1, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next sc, *ch 1, skip 1 sc, 4 dc in next sc, ch 1, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next sc, rep from * around, until you reach the last 13 sc, then continue making ruffles but work on FRONT LOOPS ONLY. After the last 4-dc shell, when you have only 3 sc left, just ch 1, kip across those 3 sc, and sl st at bottom of beginning ch-3. Fasten off Candy Print, weave in tails.
Repeat petals around other Claret circle to turn it into second rosette.
Scarflet- Join Claret to first of back loops left unworked when you made the edge of the rosette. Row 1- Make 11 sc across those unworked loops, skipping first and last loops. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Rows 3 to 10- Rep row 2. Row 11- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 sc, yo, insert hook in next sc, pull up 4 loops, yo, pull yarn through all loops on hook, yo, sl st to secure. (Puff stitch made which in this pattern stands for a "berry.") 1 dc in next sc, 1 "berry" in next sc, 1 dc in each of last 4 sc. Ch 3, turn. Note- Ch 3 stands for first dc of row. Row 12- 1 dc in next dc, 1 "berry" in next dc, 1 dc in next dc, 1 dc in top of next "berry,"

It has been an interessting and exciting summer! From the 6-ft-long Diamondback rattle snake that wanted to next under our house, and wound up in the freezer of our neighbor, when it wandered out of our front yard and a passing vehicle ran it ove(he said he intends to turn its skin into a hat...don't ask me how!!!) to the back-to-back storms that blew through our town and landed 5 tornadoes in a day in a town 3hours away from ours! (through a wonderful providence of God nobody was killed over there!)God has been very good to us, and I'm very grateful. Poetic Edging

I like edgings that work themselves up vertically not horizontally. Don't you think it is awful to do all of those chains and stitches just to find out when you are done, that your edging is either too long or too short? Well, it has happened to me, and that is the reson why I prefer vertical edgings. Here's one I came up with today and I would like to share it with you all. It is very easy and would look beautiful in just about anything. Although I used yarn, you can use #10 crochet thread if your edging will be used for a top or any other delicate-looking piece.


Materials:

Red Heart worsted weight yarn Orchid
Crochet hook size H
Scissors
Blunt needle (to weave in tail)

Ch 24.
Row 1- 1 dc in 6th ch from hook, *ch 1, skip next ch, 1 dc in next ch. Rep from * across. Ch 6, turn.
Row 2- 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, [1 dc in next dc, ch1] rep twice more, 1 dc in each of next 5 dc and ch spaces, ch 1, [1 dc in next dc, ch1] rep till end of row. Ch 4, turn.

This is another easy and lovely medallion that can be used in many many ways.
I made it with Red Heart Dusty Green, but you can use any worsted weight yarn of your choice. Size H crochet hook.

Ch 6. Sl st to close ring. Rnd 1- Ch 3, make 15 dc in ring, sl st to close round. Rnd 2- Ch 3, 1 dc in same spot, ch 1, 2 dc in same spot, ch 2 skip 1 dc, 1 sc in next dc, ch 2, skip 1 dc, *2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip 1 dc, 1 sc innext dc, ch 2, skip 1 dc, 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around. Rnd 3- Ch 3, 1 dc in next dc, ch 2, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 5, *1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 5, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 5, rep from * around. Golden Seasons Medallion

This is a beautiful but simple medallion. You can use it to make a shawl, you can use it to make a nice cardi as follows: Take your favorite cardigan or sweater, place it on top of a sheet of brown paper, trace all around it. With a measuring tape, measure length, width, sleeve length, waist, hip (if the garment is that long) depth of neckline, shoulder width, and all necessary measurments. Write them all down with a permanent marker on your template of paper. Now, begin to make these motifs. Fasten off and clip them with pins at intervals all over your brown paper template. You can make your cardi really lacy by spacing them widely and then just making chain 5, slip st, ch 5 to the next medallion and from that medallion back to the one you started from until you have filled the space in between them with a lacy chain ground. Or you can put them rather close to one another and make short chains in between them, once you have filled the shape of your garment, just sc all around the neckline and hte bottom. You can shape the sleeves pretty much the same way and sc around to form a nice cuff. You can use this medallion (working in cotton thread) for a beautiful tablecloth or a very lovely bedspread.
Here are the instructions you need:
With Worsted weight Gold-colored yarn and size H crochet hook, ch 5. Sl st to join ring.
Rnd 1-Ch 2, make 14 hdc in ring. Sl st to join ring. Rnd 2- Ch 5, yo to make a trin same spot, start tr and leave the last loop undone, rep twice more in same spot, yo to make another tr,l eave unfinished, yo and pull loop through all loops on hook, *ch 5, skip 1 hdc, yo to make 1 tr in next hdc, leave tr unfinished, yo to make another tr, leave unfinished, yo to make another tr, leave unfinished, yo too make last tr of cluster, leave unfinished, then yo and pull loop through all loops on hook (cluster made), rep from * all around. To end rnd, ch 5 and slip st in beginning ch. (7 clusters made). Rnd 3- sl st to reach top of first cluster. Ch 3, make 6 dc in same spot, *ch 1, skip to top of next cluster 7 dc in top of that cluster, ch 1, skip to top of next cluster, 7 dc in topo of that cluster, rep from * around. Fasten off.

Beautiful Medallion Motif

Whether you use them to make shawls, afghans, table runners, or even a lacy scarf, medallion motifs are a great addition to your crochet toolbox of stitches! I would like to share one that I just came up with today. I made it in worsted yarn but depending on what you want to use it for (it has a good size 6" x 6"), you can make it in worsted weight cotton (great for coasters), or even in size 10 cotton thread (you must use a size C crochet hook and the size of the motif will be reduced) this is a very versatile motif, it is very easy to make and it is very pretty.

Here's what you will need to make it:

Materials:

Red Heart worsted weight yarn Carrot

Size H crochet hook

With Carrot and H hook, ch 6, slip stitch to close rnd.Rnd 1- Ch 3, make 17 dc in ring. Sl st to close ring.Rnd 2- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, ch 2, sl st in next dc, *ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 4 dc, ch 2, sl st in next dc, rep around. In last stitches proceed as follows, ch 2, sl st in next dc, ch 3,2 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, ch 2, sl st in same space as beginning ch 3.Rnd 3- Slip stitch up the beginning ch-3 untilyou get in top of the beginning chain. First Rose of Spring

I love roses, including the simple "sweet briars", I decided to use a rose as the closure for this pretty short scarf. This scarf is very feminine and very easy to make. You can make it in any color you choose. I picked these because they make the red rose stand out most vividly.

Materials-
Red Heart worsted weight Soft Navy
Red Heart worsted weight Cherry Red
Red Heart worsted weight Kelly Green
Crochet size H hook
Scissors
Blunt needle

Note- Ch 3 equals 1 dc throughout scarflette's pattern.

Scarflette-
With Soft Navy and H hk, ch 116. Row 1- 1 dc in 6th ch from hook, *chain 1, skip 1 chain, 1 dc in next chain, rep from * across chain. Ch 3, turn. Row 2- 1 dc in next dc and in each ch-1 space in each dc across row. Ch 3, turn. Row 3- 1 dc in next dc, *Insert hook in next dc, draw up loop, yo, draw up loop in that same dc a total of 4 times, yo, and pull loop through all loops on hook, ch 1 to secure it (popcorn made), 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, rep from * across row. Ch 3, turn. Row 4- 1 dc in each dc and ch-1 space across row. Ch 4, turn. Row 5- Skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * across. Ch 3, turn. Rep rows 2 to 5 once more.

Edging- As you finish row 5, ch 1, and turn the corner. Make 1 sc in each stitch across the narrow edge fo the scarflette, to give it a neater edge. Fasten off.

Join Soft Navy on opposite edge and repeat this straight neater edge. Fasten off. Weave in tails.
Briar Rose Closure-
Rose- With H hook and Cherry Red, ch 4. Rnd 1- Make 11 dc in 4th ch from hook (12 sts made). Sl st in top of beginning chain to join it. Rnd 2- Chain 3, skip 1 dc and slip st in next dc, repeat around until you have six ch-3 loops. At the last chain-3, skip 3 dc instead of 1 and slip st in top of beginning chain. Ch 1.
Rnd 3- In first ch-3 loop, make 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 Tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc. *In next ch-3 loop, make 1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc, 1 Tr, 1 dc, 1 hdc,1 sc, repeat from * in every ch-3 loop around.
Rnd 4- Don't slip stitch to join the previous round! Take a moment to notice the stitches that were skipped in between the loops. (You can see them clearly, they are the stitches in the center you started with and that were not used when you made the loops), slip stitch in the first one, closes to the spot where you finished your last petal.
Then make a chain 5, skip a dc, slip stitch into the next previously skipped dc, and ch 5 again, repeat this procedure until you reach the spot hwere you started, sl st in that very stitch. You will now have 6 loops around the flower center. Ch 1. Rnd 5- In first loop, make 1 sc, 1 hdc, 4 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, * in next ch-5 loop, make 1 sc, 1 hdc, 4 dc, 1 hdc, 1 sc, repeat from * in each loop around.
Do not slip stitch to join round. Take a look at the center of the rose again, you will see that there are some loops that are "free" to use because of the skipping that you did before. We will use those next. Rnd 6- Ch 6, slip stitch in next "free" stitch around the center of the rose, skip 1 stitch, ch 6, sl st in next st, repeat around until you reach your beginning stitch, sl st there. Ch 1.
Rnd 7- In first ch-6 loop, make 1 sc, 6 hdc, 1 sc, *in next ch-6 loop make 1 sc, 6 hdc, 1 sc, repeat from * around. You are done with the rose. Fasten off, Cherry Red, weave in tail at the back. Join Kelly Green. The closure loop is green, we will pretend it is made out of "foliage".

Closure Loop- In any Tr of any petal of the first circle of petals made (the ones that end up at the bottom), ch 2, 1 sc in next 2 sts, ch 1, skip into 1st dc of next petal, 1 sc in that dc, 1 sc in each of next 2 sts. Ch 1, turn. Note- Ch 1 counts as 1 sc and ch 3 counts as 1 dc in the Closure Loop.

Row 2- 1 sc in each st across (7 sc). Ch 3, turn. Row 3- 1 dc in next sc and in each sc across (7 dc). Ch 1, turn. Row 4- 1 sc in next dc and in each dc across. Row 5- Rep row 4. Row 6- Rep row 3.

Continue repeating these rows (2 rows of sc and hten 1 row of dc) until you have completed 21 rows from the start, ending with 2 rows of sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew with. Using long tail and blunt needle sew the end of the green strip to the 2 rose petals directly opposite the ones you stred with (at the same level.)

Put the scarflette around your neck. Find a comfortable spot to place the closure. Slip the Rose Loop up to that spot and pin it to the scaflette. Take off the scarflette. Join Kelly green to the back of the Loop, wich now lies over the back of the scarflette, and sew the back of the Loop to the back of the scarflette so that the Loop will remain in place. (Leave the front part where the rose is free!) Fasten off.

Now you can comfortably insert the other side of the scarflette through this lovely loop to close it around your neck.

That Cute Little Red Ascott

This is the kind of little scarf that every crocheter should have in hand when thinking about gift-making.
It is also great for charity. It works up really fast. I made it in two sittings.
So, this one will work if you want to make a whole bunch of scarflettes.
Note 1- If you would like it to be a bit more loose around your neck, simply add 11 or 16 more stitches to the
foundation chain and follow the pattern as written originally. That will make the scarflet a bit loser. You can also make it the same length but
reduce the size of the keyhole by 5 stitches, which will increase the give as the scarf is tied around the neck.
The idea of this one was to immitate a hankerchief around the neck, so it was not designed to be like a long
scarf that you can wind up several times around the neck. A young girl will love one of this one!
Make it in her favorite color or in blue jean hues!
Note 2- Ch 1 turning chain stands for 1 sc throughout.

Skill- Moderately easy
Size- Approximately 5" W x 21 1/2' L

Materials:
Red Heart worsted weight Cherry Red yarn
Crochet hook size H
Scissors
blunt needle (to weave in yarn tails)

With H hook and Cherry Red ch 81. Row 1- 1 sc in 3rd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2- Skip 1st sc, 1 sc in next sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, 1 sc in next sc, rep from * across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3- 1 sc in ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next sc, *1 sc in ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next sc, 1 sc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next sc, rep from * across. Note 3- Don't work too tight so that the stitch won't "pull" and become distorted.
Rows 4 to 6- Rep rows 2 and 3 alternately. Ch 1, turn. Row 7- 1 sc in each sc and in each ch-1 space across.Ch 1, turn.
Row 8- (As before, ch 1 counts as first sc of row). 1 sc in each of next 13 sc. Keyhole: ch 12, skip 12 sc, 1 sc in next sc, 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 2, turn. Row 9- Skip next sc, 1 sc in next sc, ch 1, *skip next sc, 1 sc in next sc, ch 1, rep from * until you reach the opening (keyhole), then, make 1 sc in each chain of the opening, 1 sc in next sc (first sc on the other side of the keyhole), *ch 1, skip next sc, 1 sc in next sc, rep from * across.
Rows 10 to 14- Repeat rows 2 and 3
alternately. Ch 1, turn. Row 15- Make 1 sc in each sc and ch-1 space across row.
Edges- As you reach the end of row 15, ch 1 (do not fasten off), turn the corner and sc across the narrow edge of the little scarf.
Fasten off, weave in tail. Join yarn to the opposite end and sc across the narrow edge. Fasten off, weave in tail.
