Materials:
No. 10 crochet hook in colors of your choice (to be used dougle strand)
Number C crochet hook
Round 1- Ch 8, sl st to form ring. Ch 3 and make 23 dc in ring, sl st to close.
Round 2- Ch 5, skip 2 dc, 1 sc, *ch 5, skip 2 dc, 1 sc in next st, rep from * around. (8 rings formed).
Round 3- In 1st ring, slip st into beg of ring, then make 11 dc, 1 sc in 3rd ch of next ring. *Make 12 dc in next ring, 1 sc in 3rd ch of next ring. Rep from * around. Sl st to join to beg shell. (4 shells formed). Fasten off.
Round 4- Choose any of the 4 shells, count 6 dc, join contrasting No. 10 thread (using two strands of thread) to that dc. Ch 3 and make 11 dc in that same spot. *Ch 3, skip 2 dc, 1 sc in next dc, ch 3, 1 sc in middle sc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 1 sc, skip 2 dc, 1 sc, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 12 dc in next st. Repeat from *all around. Ch 3 and join to 1st ch 3 of large beginning shell to finish the round. Fasten off.
Round 6- Choose any sc in any of the 4 ch-3 loop spaces and join a contrasting color on that sc (using two strands of thread), make 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in next sc, skip the next ch-3 as well as the 1st 4 dc of first large shell and make 1 sc , skip 2 more dc, make 3 dc in next stitch, make 3 ch, skip 2 dc, make 1 sc, skip the last 2 dc of shell as well as the next ch-3 loop and inserting the hook in the sc after the loop, make 3 dc. Repeat around. Ch 3 to finish round and join to the starting ch 3 of 1st 3-dc cluster. Fasten off.
Round 7 Join another contrasting color in any sc around, ch 3, 1 dc in each of the next stritches until you reach a corner. Dc in 1st dc of 3-dc shell cluster of that corner, then make 2 dc, ch 1 2 dc in the middle dc of the corner shell and 1 dc in the last dc of shell, continue as before until you reach another corner, and repeat. Continue like this all around.
If you would like a larger block repeat this last row or use a larger hook when you start.
You can make this pretty summer shell with this block, lining it with cotton fabric. Just follow the schematic given.
