Cowls have been very popular on our site. The cold months sometimes are a bit drab and it is wonderful to put on something warm and pretty and colorful to lift your spirits.That has given me inspiration for this beautiful yet simple collar which works up like a dream. You can wear it around a turtle neck or simply around your neck to keep you warm and feeling pretty on a cold and blustery day,  Enjoy!

Materials-
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Real Teal (1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Blunt needle
Scissors

With Real Teal and H hook, ch 26

Row 1- 1 dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. (24  dc) Ch 3, turn.
From now on, you will be crocheting in between the dc stitches.
Row 2- yarn over and insert hook in between the posts of the first 2 double crochet sts of the previous row and work 1 dc st as usual, rep across row. (24 dc, counting ch 3 as 1 dc) Ch 3, turn.
Row 3- Yo, insert hook right between the first two dc of previous row and work 1 dc, rep across. Ch 3, turn.
Rows 4 to 52- Rep row 2. DO NOT FASTEN OFF. Ch 4, turn (counts as first dc plus ch 1 of next row).


Lace Edge-
 (We will be working on long side of cowl across edge.)
Row 1- Skip space, *1 dc in next space, ch 1, skip space, rep from * across. (51 dc plus ch 1 spaces across.) Ch 4, turn.
Row 2- 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, *1 dc in next dc, ch 1, rep from * across, ending row with a dc in top of turning ch. Ch 4, turn.
Row 3- Rep row 3.
Fold the Lace Edge over the collar and with yarn, discreetly tack the edges in place. Fasten off, weave in tails.
Bottom of Cowl-
Join yarn to NARROW EDGE of one of the long sides of cowl.
Row 1- Working across narrow edge of Cowl, make 16 sc across narrow edge, working through both thicknesses, continue to sc across (Cowl and tacked edge of Lace Edge), make 5 more sc, for a total of 22 sc, ch 1, insert hook through both thicknesses of opposite edge of second leg of cowl and work 5 sc across the folded edge of Cowl. Now continue the row by making 1 sc in each foundation of loop of each remaining stitch. (Cowl is joined), (47 sc) Ch 2,turn.
Row 2- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (47 sc) 
Rows 3 to 4- Rep row 2. Ch 1, turn. (47 sc)
Row 5- 1 sc in each sc across. (47 sc)DO NOT FASTEN OFF! Ch 3, turn (counts as 1st dc of next row).

Shell Edging- 
Row 1- 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, [1 dc in each of next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st] rep 6 times, ch 3, skip 3 sts, 2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc in next st, ch 3, skip 3 sts, [1 dc in each of next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st] rep 7 times, ch 3, turn.
Row 2- 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, [1 dc in each of next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st] rep 6 times, ch 2, skip 2 ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc, ch 3, 1 dc in next ch space, 1 dc in each of next 2 sts, 1 dc in next ch, ch 2, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1,  [1 dc in each of next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st] rep till end of row. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3- 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, [1 dc in each of next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st] rep 6 times, ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in next ch sp, 1 dc in each of next 4 sts, 1 dc in next ch, ch 1, skip next ch, 1 dc in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st, [1 dc in each of next 2 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st] rep till end of row. Ch 3, turn.
Row 4- 4 dc in same spot as ch 3 (shell made), skip next 3 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip next 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, skip next 2 sts, sc in next st, skip next 2 sts, 5-dc shell in next st, skip next 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, ch 1, skip next 2 sts, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts, 1 dc, ch 2, 1 dc in next ch space, 1 dc in each of next 8 sts, ch 1, skip next 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip 2 sts, 5-dc shell in next st, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip 2 sts, 5-dc shell in next st, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip till the last st on row, work a 5-dc shell. Fasten off, weave in tails.

Rose-
With Real Teal and H hook, ch 410.
Row 1- 1 sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. (40 sc) Ch 3, turn (counts as first dc of first shell).
Row 2- 3 dc in first st, *4 dc in next st, rep from * across.
Roll up into flower shape. Use a yarn needle to stitch flower together on the back side.
