Best Blog Tips

The cold months often come accompanied by dreary weather, gray skies and just a bit sad weather. A pop of color in your wardrobe will be so uplifting in a day or week like that. Liessa fits the bill perfectly. it is a super easy cowl to make, warm and attractive. It works up relatively easy and it would be an ideal project for a gift or for charity. Have fun making and wearing yours!

Skill- Relatively easy.
Size- 10" W (after Collar fold) x approximately 31" L (after Lace is finished)

Materials-
Red Heart Yarn variegated of your choice (1 skein), I used Super Saver Mexicana
Crochet hook size H
Scissors
Blunt needle to weave in ends

Ch 43.
Row 1- 1 tr in 5th ch from hook, 1 tr in each ch across. (40 sts) Ch 4, turn.
Row 2- 1 tr in each stitch across. (40 sts) Ch 4, turn.
Rows 3 to 25- 1 tr in each stitch across. (40 sts) Ch 4, turn.
Row 26- 1 tr in each stitch across. (40 sts) Ch 1, turn.

Fold 1" of the crocheted fabric to form the collar and pin in place.


Bottom of Cowl-
Row 1- 1 sc in each in each of first 25 stitches, now, working across the fold of the Collar, inserting the hook through both thicknesses, make 1 sc in each stitch across the fold of the collar, securing the collar. Ch 3, insert hook into second part of the cowl, and working through both thicknesses, make 1 sc in first stitch and continue by making 1 sc in each of next 4 stitches, also working through both sicknesses, 1 sc in each remaining stitch across row. (73 sts) Ch 4, turn (counts as first dc + ch 1 of next row).


Lace-
Row 1- Skip next stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, *ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, rep from * until you reach the last stitch on the fold of the Collar, do not work a ch 1, skip first of ch-3 space, 1 dc, ch 1, 1 dc (V Stitch) in next ch, skip last ch, do not make a ch 1, 1 dc in first stitch of opposite side of folded Collar,  *ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc in next stitch, rep from * till end of row. Ch 4, turn.
Row 2- 1 dc in first dc, ch 1, *1 dc in next dc, ch 1, rep fro * across. Ch 4, turn.
Row 3- Rep row 2. Ch 4, turn.
Row 4- Rep row 2. Ch 3, turn.
Row 5- Work 2 dc in same spot as ch 3 (first stitch of row), ch 3, skip next ch 1 and 1 dc, 1 sc in next dc, ch 3, skip 2 dc and the ch 1-spaces in between them, skip next ch 1, and work 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc (Shell) in next dc, ch 3, skip following ch sp as well as 1 dc and dc, and work 1 sc in next dc, ch 3, skip 3 dc and the ch-1 spaces in between, skip next ch 1, Shell in next dc, ch 3, skip next 2 sts, 1 sc in next st, ch 3, skip 6 sts, work 5 dc in V St in the center of Front, ch 3, skip 8 sts, 1 sc in next st, skip 7 sts, Shell in next st, ch 3, skip 4 sts, 1 sc in next st, ch 3, skip 7 sts, Shell in next st, ch 3, 1 sc in top of turning ch, ch 3, turn.
Row 6- 2 dc in same spot as ch 3, ch 3, *1 sc in next sc, ch 3, Shell in center of next Shell, ch 3, rep, from * across. Ch 3, turn.
Row 7- Rep Row 6. Fasten off, leaving long tail to weave in ends. Weave in tail.
