Cowls have been so tremendously popular with Craftybegonia's friends everywhere that I have decided to make them more often. Here is a super easy one that you can make in a jiffy for yourself or to give as a gift. It would also make a great charity project. It is somewhat lacy but still sufficiently chunky to provide warmth and feel cozy. Enjoy!

Materials-
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Lavender (1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Blunt needle (to weave in ends)
Scissors

Size- 15 inches long (31 inches around)
Skill- Advanced beginner onwards.

With Lavender and H hook, ch 110, sl st to join into a long ring, making sure not to twist the chain.
Rnd 1- Ch 3 in same spot as sl st, 1 dc in each of next 4 ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, *1 dc in each of next 4 ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch, rep from * around 20 times, 1 dc in each ch till end of rnd, sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 2- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next ch-1 sp, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, rep around 19 times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 dc in each stitch till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 3- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 sp, *ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc and in next ch sp, rep from * around 19 times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each stitch till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 4- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 space, *ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1, sp, rep from * 20 times around, ch 1, skip 1 stitch, 1 dc in each dc till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 5- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, *1 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, rep from * around a total of 20 times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each dc till end of rnd, sl st to join rnd.
Rnd 6- Ch 3, 1 dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, *ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in next ch 1 space, 1 dc in each of next 3 dc, rep from * 18 more times, ch 1, skip 1 dc, 1 dc in each dc till end of rnd. Sl st to join rnd.

This is one of those sweet and short pieces you can carry in your bag and you wrap around your neck when you feel a chilly wind. It is very easy, effective and it works up fast! This scarflet will work out really well in worsted weight yarn but you can make it in a bulkier weight if you prefer, but if you change the thickness of the yarn, please make a sample to check the gauge.

Skill- Relatively easy.

Size- Approximately, 26 1/2" L  x  4 1/4"

Materials-

Red Heart worsted weight yarn Burgundy (1 skein)

Red Heart worsted weight yarn Shocking Pink (3 oz, approximately)

Scissors

Blunt needle (to weave in tails)

With Burgundy and H hook, ch 55.

Row 1- 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hk and in each ch across. Ch 2, turn. (54 hdc)

Row 3 to 11- 1 hdc in each hdc across. Ch 1, turn. (54 hdc)

Working on narrow end of scarflet:

Buttonhole Side-

Row 2 (Petal)- *Ch 6, work 1 sc in second ch from hook, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch, 1 hdc in next ch, 1 sc in last ch, sl st in  foundation sc (the sc of center round of flower), sl st in next sc, rep from* around.

Sew Flower to correspond with buttonhole

Note- This Flower makes a tight fit, if you would like to substitute another flower, you may do so. I wanted a larger Flower so that the scarflet won't fly open with use.

This is a lovely cowl, with a fun detail of little roses. It is relatively easy to make and does not take up that much yarn, which makes it ideal for gift and charity projects as well.

Materials-
Red Heart worsted weight yarn Perfect Pink (1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Blunt needle
Scissors

Cowl-

With Perfect Pink and H hook, ch 27 loosely.

Row 1 (Right Side)- Work 5 dc in 6th ch from hook, skip the next 2 chs, make 1 dc in next ch, *skip the next 2 chs, make 5 dc in next ch, skip the next 2 chs, work 1 dc in next ch, rep from * across. Ch 3, turn. (Mark this side as right side.)

Row 2- Make 5 dc in third dc of first shell, 1 dc in next dc, *5 dc in third dc of next shell, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * across. Ch 3, turn.

Rows 3 to 36- Rep row 2. Ch 3, turn.

Row 37- Rep row 2. Ch 3, turn.

Row 38- 1 dc in next st and in each stitch across. (25 dc, ch 3, counting as first dc of row) Ch 3, turn.

Row 39- 1 dc in next st and in each stitch across. Ch 3, turn.

Row 40- 1 dc in next st and in each stitch across. Ch 3, turn. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.

With blunt needle and tail you left off sew the piece into a tube. Fasten off, weave in all tails.

Row 2- Work 4 dc in same spot as ch 3, 1 sc in next ch, *5 dc in next ch, 1 sc in next ch, rep from * across. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.
Thread blunt needle with tail and rolling the rose around, sew it together at the back. Fasten off, weave in tails.
Sew Roses to Cowl as seen in photos. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Sapphire Lace Scarflet

The classic, go-with-anything quality of navy blue has made it an enduring color in women's closets for generations!
The convenience of the color has been softened by the presence of lace edges to create a relatively simple to make, feminine scarflet that wears easy and well. For your convenience, I used a readily available and affordable yarn.

Materials-
Red Heart worsted weight yarn, Soft Navy (1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Blunt needle (to weave in tails)
Scissors

Side #1-
With Soft Navy and H hook, ch 26.
Row 1- 1 sc in second ch from hook, skip 4 ch, work 7 dc in next ch, *skip 4 ch, work 7 dc in next ch, rep from * across, end row with 1 sc in last ch. Ch 5, turn. (4 seven-dc shells plus 2 sc.)
Row 2- Skip first 2 dc of first shell, 1 dc in next dc of shell, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 4, skip last 2 dc of shell and also skip the first 2 dc of next shell, *1 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, skip last 2 dc of current shell, ch 4, skip first 2 dc of next shell, work 1 dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next dc, 1 dc in next dc, rep from * across, end row as follows, ch 2, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Totally Vibrant Scarflet

This one is cute and will work perfectly for gift-giving and for charity projects. It is a little longer than my usual scarflet size but shorter than your regular scarves. It is quite quick to make if you are an experienced and fast crocheter.

Materials:Red Heart worsted weight yarn Cherry Red (less than 1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Scissors
Blunt needle (to weave in tails)

Side #1-
Medallion End-
With Cherry Red and H hook, ch 6, sl st to form ring.
Rnd 1- Ch 4, 1 dc, ch 1 in ring, [1 dc, ch 1 in rng] rep 12 times, ch 1, sl st to join rnd. (you will have a total of 13 dc in ring)

Girly Girl Cell Phone or I-Pod Case

I don't know about you, but I love pretty and girly stuff. Even if it's simple and to the point, daily-wear-and-tear items, if I can make them cute, I will. So here's my take on a no-nonsense, daily use I-pod or cell phone case.

Materials:

Worsted weight cotton (color of your choice)
Crochet hook size F
Blunt needle
Scissors
Shirt-size button, color of your choice
Sewing needle
Sewing thread


Ch 26.
Row 1- 1 sc in second ch from hk and in each ch across. (25 sc) Ch 2, turn.
Row 2- 1 hdc in each sc across. (25 hdc) Ch 2, turn.
Rows 3 to 4- 1 hdc in each sc across. (25 hdc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 5- 1 sc in each hdc across.
Rows 6 to 15- Continue repeating 3 hdc rows and 1 sc row. Ch 1, turn corner to work on side of piece.
Rows 16 to 17- Work on the side of piece, work 21 sc across. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with.

Working on Wrong Side, thread blunt needle with leftover tail and sew side and bottom of case. Turn case inside out.

Flap-
Row 1- Join chosen yarn to back of case, skip the first sc row worked on the side of the case. Make 1 sc in each of next 11 hdc. Ch 2, turn. (11 sc)
Rows 2 to 4- 1 hdc in each sc across. (11 hdc) Ch 1, turn.
Row 5- 1 sc in each of first 2 hdc, sc2tog over next 2 hdc, ch 1, skip 2 hdc, 1 sc in next hdc, sc2tog over next 2 hdc, 1 sc in last hdc (buttonhole made). Ch 1, tun.
Row 6- 1 sc in each stitch across. (8 sc) Ch 2, turn.

Scallop Edge-
Row 1- 3 hdc in same spot as ch 2, skip 1 sc, 1 sc in next sc, skip 1 sc, 4 hdc in next sc, 1 sc in next sc, 4 hdc innext sc, sl st in last sc.
Fasten off, weave in tail.

Thread sewing needle with sewing thread and sew button in place. Fasten off.

Optional- (Some people like their cell phone cases to have handles, to make it easier for them to grab them and put them where they go in tote bags or purses.)

Handle-
Join yarn to side of case and ch 16. Ch 1, turn.
Row 1- 1 sc in each ch across. (16 sc)
Fasten off, weave in tails.

Done!

Size: Approx. 5-1/2 x 3- 1/2" (loosely!)
