This is a really easy but gorgeous short cowl that you can make in a jiffy if you are a fast crocheter. It was made in a variegated that had been stashed for a while, that is why I am not including the specific color.
You can easily make it in any Red Heart variegated of your choice and it will be just as lovely, because it is the stitches and the shape of the cowl that counts. Enjoy!

Materials-

Red Heart worsted weight yarn Super Saver, your choice of a variegated (1 skein)
Crochet hook size H
Scissors
Blunt needle to weave in ends
Pins.

Ch 44.


Row 1- 1 sc in third ch from hook, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 sc in next ch, rep from * across. (43 sts) Ch 2, turn.
Row 2- Skip first sc, 1 sc in next ch, *skip next sc, ch 1, 1 sc in next ch space, rep from * across, 1 c in each of last 2 sts. (43 sts) Ch 1, turn.
Row 3- 1 sc in first sc, *ch 1, skip next sc, 1 sc in next ch 1 space, rep from * across. (43 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Rows 4 to Row 68- Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternately. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Fold 2 inches of the crochted fabric and pin in in place, to form the collar of the cowl.
Bottom of Cowl-
Join yarn to NARROW EDGE of one of the long sides of cowl.
Row 1- Work 1 sc into every sc and ch 1 space across narrow edge of cowl, when you reach the folding of the collar, continue crocheting 1 sc into each stitch but through both thicknesses, ch 2, continue by working through both thicknesses of opposite side of narrow edge of cowl, making 1 sc in each stitch, then 1 sc in each sc and in each ch 1 space till end of row. Ch 4, turn (counts as first tr of next row). (64 sc)
Row 2-1 tr in each stitch across. Ch 5, turn (counts as first tr and ch 1 of next row). (64 tr)
Rpw 3- Skip next st, 1 tr, ch 1, [skip next st, 1 tr and ch 1 in next st] rep 10 times, ch 1, 1 tr in each of next 8 sts, ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 tr in next st, [skip next st, 1 tr and ch 1 in next st] rep till end of row. Ch 3, turn (counts as first dc of first shell).
Shell Edge-
Row 1- Work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc shell in first tr, ch 2, skip 2 tr and ch 1 spaces, work a shell as follows: 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next tr (shell made), *ch 2, skip 2 tr and 2 ch spaces, work shell in next tr, rep from * across till end of row. Fasten off, weave in ends.
